My Daily Plate · last updated 16 October 2026
My Daily Plate (“Plate”) is a food diary for iPhone made by Glynn Allen. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up, no ads, no tracking, no analytics.
- Your diary (meals, photos, notes, drinks, weight, check-ins, plans) and your Apple Health data stay on your iPhone.
- Only when you ask for an AI meal estimate, and only after you allow it, that meal’s photo and note are sent to estimate it.
What stays on your iPhone
Everything you log is stored on your device: meal photos and notes, drinks, weight, energy/mood/hunger check-ins, weekly plans, badges and settings. It is included in your normal iPhone backup. Plate does not upload it anywhere.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, Plate reads (never writes) steps, workouts, active energy, weight, sleep, heart rate variability, resting heart rate and, only if you turn it on, cycle data. This data is used only inside the app on your device. It is never sent to our server, to the AI provider or to anyone else, and never used for advertising.
AI meal estimates (optional, part of Plate Plus)
When you ask for an estimate, after you have allowed AI estimates:
- The meal’s photo (resized) and your note are sent over an encrypted connection to Plate’s server (hosted by Convex, in the EU), which passes them to Anthropic’s Claude AI to estimate calories, protein, carbs and fat.
- Plate’s server does not store the photo or note. It keeps only counters: how many estimates a random install ID made each day, and the monthly cost.
- Anthropic processes the request under its own terms and privacy policy (anthropic.com/legal/privacy). Anthropic does not use API inputs to train its models by default.
- You can turn AI estimates off at any time in Settings.
Estimates are approximate and are not medical or dietary advice.
Identifiers
The app creates a random install ID when you first use estimates. It is used to apply a daily limit, to check your Plate Plus subscription, and, with Apple’s App Attest, to confirm requests come from the genuine app. It is not linked to your name, email or Apple ID.
Subscriptions
Plate Plus is sold through the App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your payment details. RevenueCat, our subscription provider, receives the random install ID and Apple’s purchase receipt to confirm your subscription.
Children
Plate is not directed at children under 16.
Your choices
- Turn AI estimates off in Settings.
- Disconnect Apple Health in the Health app (Sharing > Apps > My Daily Plate).
- Delete the app to delete all of its data from your iPhone.
- The counters on our server are tied only to the random install ID, not to you; deleting the app leaves nothing that identifies you.
